Boycot Alert – Animal Abuse On Set of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ Movie

UPDATE: please see end of article for an important update!

A Dog’s Purpose is a highly popular novel written in 2010, by W. Bruce Cameron, and is described as:

Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh out loud funny, this book is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog’s many lives, but also a dog’s eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man’s best friend. This story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

I haven’t read the book but as you can tell, it’s pro-dog and pro-animal. It may not be the animal rights bible of our time but does promote a healthy positivity towards our animal friends.

Fast-forward to present and we see reality bitch-slap us as always!

The Huffington Post reports on an undercover video of the blatant mistreatment of one of the dog’s featured in the upcoming film adaptation:

In a video obtained by TMZ and posted on Wednesday, a crew member or trainer for the film is seen forcing a German shepherd to perform a “stunt” that seems extremely unsafe ― so much so as to call into question how animals were handled over the entire course of the film’s shooting.

This is blatant animal abuse and the poor dog almost drowned! Of course, the Hollywood PR machine is kicking in and stating that this was a ‘one-off’ and no other ‘mistakes’ happened on set. If you believe that then you need to educate yourself more! Animal abuse in Hollywood continues to this day, despite the ‘feel-good’ end credit from the American Humane Association stating ‘no animals were harmed’. Animals are regularly harmed and exploited for entertainment purposes. Are you not entertained?

Here is an article on the problems with the American Humane Association:

Movie-goers who care about animals being used in films come away with a certain amount of comfort after reading American Humane Association’s famous slogan- “No animals were harmed” in the film credits. But after researching this organization, I have learned that their presence assures us of no such thing and in fact provides us with a false sense of comfort and a very different reality.

Additionally, PETA recently filed a complaint with the USDA regarding on-going animal abuse by Birds & Animals Unlimited, one of Hollywood’s leading facilities for animal training and handling. Guess which company supplied the animals for ‘A Dog’s Purpose’? Yup, BAU!

Well-done to PETA for being 2 steps ahead of everyone else as usual! Please consider donating to their cause, you’ll find it’s money well spent!

If animal abuse, and the video of the poor dog being forced into dangerous water and nearly drowning, is NOT your idea of fun, please boycott ‘A Dog’s Life’ and send Hollywood a clear message that this must end immediately!

Please also share the video and information on social media and let friends and family know of the horrific abuse. No one should attend this movie thinking it benefits animals in any real way.

And remember:

respect existence or expect resistance

UPDATE 1: for the sake of clarity, and the fact that we are only interested in the whole truth here at VATM, new information about this video has come to light:

TMZ now reports that the original video is an edit of 2 videos, taken days apart, and made to look like Hercules was thrown into the water. This is deceitful editing BUT even when you separate the 2 videos, it’s very clear that Hercules was manhandled, and nearly drowned.

The TMZ update requires you to believe the film producers version of events. That’s up to you.

UPDATE 2: Animal treatment questions cancel ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ premiere

UPDATE 3: TMZ reporting that film crew members under investigation, with jail time on the table. The on-set American Humane Association rep has been suspended.

This Superbug Is Resistant to All Antibiotics

MotherJones reports on a new superbug strain which is resistant to all antibiotics and may be coming to a city near you, courtesy of industrial farming!

Too often, though, media reports about antibiotic resistance neglect to mention a key driver: modern meat production. The unraveling of antibiotics as a tool to fight infections is intimately related to the way we have raised animals for decades, dosing them with antibiotics to make animals gain weight faster and avoid infections despite in tight, unsanitary conditions. Overuse in human medicine also drives the problem, but nearly 80 percent of the antibiotics used in the United States flow into livestock farms.

Animal-cruelty charge dropped against Fort Worth vet accused of keeping dog alive for its blood

Texas: where animals aren’t even safe from vets!

Dallas News reports on the case of a vet who kept a couples dog, who was turned over to be euthanized because of a spinal defect, alive for blood harvesting!

Marian and Jamie Harris of Aledo had taken their Leonberger, Sid, for treatment at Tierce’s Camp Bowie Animal Clinic in west Fort Worth in 2013. The Harrises were told that Sid needed to be euthanized because of a spinal defect. Months later, the Harrises said, a former clinic employee called them and said Sid was still alive and that Tierce was harvesting his blood for use in transfusions.

Millard Lucien “Lou” Tierce

Luckily Sid was rescued after a few months. The ‘vet’ only received a 5 year suspended license so he’ll be back at it soon.

Then there’s this sadistic fucker:

What punishment did this Texas ‘vet’ receive for this?

The Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners ruled Tuesday that Kristen Lindsey, the veterinarian who posted a photo of a dead tabby cat named Tiger with an arrow through its head on her Facebook last year, will have her license suspended for one year where she will not be able to practice.

This cat turned out to be a neighbors pet. Not that feral cats deserves an arrow to the head. From a ‘vet’ no less!

The ALDF have been battling hard to completely revoke her veterinary license. Why would she even want to keep it? Does she think a single pet owner would pay her for her services?

In a blog post before the killing, Lindsey wrote that her current interests include “…killing things or trying to kill things (animals, a full glass of whiskey, hangovers, etc.).”

Regarding that ‘killing a full glass of whiskey’, during the trial she was charged with a DWI!

Kristen Lindsey, pet killer and drunk driver.

Police say a car driven by Kristen Lindsey nearly hit an off-duty Precinct 5 deputy on I-10 westbound near the West Loop back in March. The deputy called in a report of an erratic driver. A Houston police officer stopped Lindsey on the South Loop at Stella Link where she ran into a curb. She was found to be impaired, arrested and charged with DWI, according to HPD.

Then we have Texas A&M University, who have a large vet school on site. What did they do wrong?

Disturbing Footage Shows A&M Dogs Used in Medical Research

Video footage shows that Kornegay’s appallingly thin dogs were caged, sometimes alone, in barren metal cells and struggled to swallow thin gruel—the only food that they could eat, given how easily they could choke. Long ropes of saliva hung from the mouths of dogs whose jaw muscles had weakened. Even balancing was difficult. Dogs with this condition are also at great risk for pneumonia because they can easily inhale liquid into their lungs.

Dogs who didn’t have the disease but carried the DMD gene were used for breeding. Deprived of loving homes, they frantically paced the slatted floors and bit the bars of small cages in frustration. They didn’t even have the comfort of a blanket.

To gauge just how much a dog’s muscles have deteriorated, Kornegay has invented a crude technique that could pass for medieval torture: He repeatedly stretches them with a motorized lever in order to cause muscle tears.

Tell Texas A&M to Stop Abusing Horses and Selling Them to Slaughter

A whistleblower from Texas A&M University—Commerce (TAMUC) leaked information to PETA that a former racehorse named Oasis Storm, also called Tina—who was used in the school’s agricultural equine program—was lame, denied veterinary care, and then killed. After a lengthy fight with the university, PETA obtained documents showing that Tina suffered for many months from an excruciatingly painful condition called laminitis. She was never provided with proper veterinary care or adequate pain relief, and when she was five months pregnant, she was shot to death by the farm manager—who is not a veterinarian—at the school. The foal was then cut out of his mother’s body and used in the school’s equine-reproduction course.

Considering that all of this evil was performed by vet’s and a veterinary school… what the fuck is going on in Texas?

Ringling Bros. circus to close after 146 years

146 years of animal torture, abuse and slavery comes to an end as Ringling Bros. close forever in May!

The iconic American spectacle was felled by a variety of factors, company executives say. Declining attendance combined with high operating costs, along with changing public tastes and prolonged battles with animal rights groups all contributed to its demise.

We hope for the day that there are no circuses, zoo’s or aquariums in the world. This is one step in right direction.

For anyone wondering what the big deal is, peak behind the facade and learn how circus trainers get wild animals to perform those ‘entertaining’ tricks!

Elephants, tigers, and other animals that circuses use to entertain audiences do not stand on their heads, jump through hoops, or balance on pedestals because they want to. They perform these and other difficult tricks because they’re afraid of what will happen if they don’t.

Bravo to the numerous people and animal rights organizations who battled for decades to raise public awareness of the substantial abuse that goes into these shows. It turns out the public doesn’t find it entertaining after all!

Here’s how to be a more effective vegan advocate offers great information on how to be a more effective vegan advocate:

Embracing a vegan lifestyle inarguably saves animals, but the number of animals saved pales in comparison to what is achievable through activism. You can literally save hundreds or even thousands of times more animals through activism than you can through your personal food and lifestyle choices.
